Why Sunday Dinner Is More Than a Book

Some stories begin with a moment.
Others begin with a memory.
But the story behind my book Sunday Dinner began with a tradition.

Growing up, Sunday wasn’t just another day of the week. It was a rhythm of life. The day started in church, surrounded by gospel music, prayer, and a community that believed in lifting one another up. But when the service ended, the day wasn’t over. In many ways, it was just beginning.
In Because after church, we gathered around the table.
Plates were filled. Conversations started. Laughter echoed through the room. And without even realizing it, something deeper was happening in those moments. Wisdom was being shared. Faith was being strengthened. Family bonds were being built in ways that would last a lifetime.

Those memories stayed with me.
Long after the plates were cleared and the years began to pass, I realized that those Sunday dinners had shaped who I am today.

As a spoken word artist, I’ve spent years telling stories through poetry—stories about faith, family, love, loss, and the traditions that define us. Spoken word allowed me to express what was in my heart, to stand in front of people and share pieces of my life through rhythm and storytelling.

But eventually I realized something.
Some stories deserve more than a performance.
They deserve to live somewhere permanent.
That realization is what led me to write Sunday Dinner.

This book is not just about food on a table. It’s about the memories created around that table. It’s about the faith that carried a family through difficult seasons. It’s about honoring the people who poured love, wisdom, and strength into our lives long before we understood how valuable those moments were.

For many of us, the dinner table was where life lessons were taught.
It was where we learned about respect, perseverance, faith, and gratitude. It was where stories of past generations were told, reminding us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.

In Sunday Dinner, I share reflections that connect those memories to the journey of faith and family that continues to shape my life today.

My hope is that when you read this book, you won’t just see my story—you’ll begin to remember your own.

Maybe it will remind you of a grandmother’s kitchen.
Maybe it will take you back to a house filled with cousins and laughter.
Maybe it will make you think about the traditions that helped shape your faith and identity.
Because the truth is, we all have moments like that.

Moments that fed our spirit as much as they fed our stomach.

Moments that reminded us what it means to belong.

If you’ve ever experienced the power of family, the comfort of tradition, or the strength that comes from faith, then Sunday Dinner was written with you in mind.

So I invite you to pull up a chair.

Take a seat at the table.

And experience the story behind Sunday Dinner.
